Legal Services

The Pine Rivers Community Legal Sevice  is a full time, free and confidential general legal service provided within the Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre for the benefit of socially and financially disadvantaged members of the Pine Rivers community.

We offer advice on all general aspects of the law, assistance with information (including printed materials), advice on how to proceed with a legal problem, referral to solicitors who specialise in various areas of the law and assistance with applications and consent orders.

The Legal Service is not able to offer telephone advice, represent you in court or offer ongoing case work.

What a solicitor can and can’t do for you:

A solicitor can:

Listen to you, ensuring they understand what you mean;
Tell you what the law says in a way that you understand;
Give you choices about what you can do;
Help you decide what you want to do; and
Tell you about other services.

A solicitor can’t:

Fix all of your problems
Spend unlimited time with you and on your legal issue;

Always say for sure what will happen;
Always do what you want them to do; and
Always make other people do the right thing.

The legal service has limited resources which may restrict the services that can be provided. There are some areas of the law that we are uanble to cover and in these instances referrals will be made where possible.

Document Drafting

Wills

We draft your will (providing it does not include family trusts or companies). An inital appointment clarifies your instructions and we then prepare a draft and send or mail to you for checking.  A subsequent appointment is made where we finalise your will.

Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA)

Please make an appointment to discuss your requirements.

Law Reform

The Legal Service participates in law reform activities periodically.  We do this in line with the presenting needs of our clients and our underpinning social justice principles. This may occur by making submissions prior to legislative changes.
