The legal service undertakes community education activities throughout the year educating  the community about legal and other related matters.  These may be in the form of a workshop, seminar, newsletter article or an information stall at local community events. Community education can serve a number of purposes.

It can be an avenue to:

• Educate people about what their legal rights and responsibilities are in relation to a variety of issues;
• Inform people what they can do to enforce their rights and carry out their responsibilities;
• Inform people on how to make a claim or complaint;
• Inform people about new laws that come about and how those new laws might affect them;
• Inform people what they should or shouldn’t do in certain circumstances (e.g. if they get arrested or if they are involved in a car accident); and
• Inform people about the Pine Rivers  Legal Service and the services that we offer.

The Legal Service may provide Community Education on topics that are within its area of competency. These areas include:

• Family Law (e.g. children’s matters, property matters, de facto property matters)
• Consumer Rights Law (e.g. buying a car, refunds, the Small Claims Tribunal
• Employment Law

How is Community Education provided?

Usually, Community Education is provided face-to-face, in groups at an appropriate venue.  Contact the Legal Service regarding any requests you have for this service.
